There is one mission in a mercenary campaign that you start off with a couple of lights, have to salvage a hunchback, and escort some vehicles out of the area when some clanners attack, and there is only one way to win that one.basically you have to send your lights to one side in advance of a couple of light clan mechs to keep them occupied until the hunchback and vehicles manage to get through a ravine and can then get to the extraction point, and what makes it all that much worse.there are precious few seconds from activation until the first wave of clanners come at the base until you get the heck outta there and lose.
There are also custom campaigns that can be played in Omnitech which give a pretty good challenge, at time it feels impossible until you learn the trick. (that only happens in the later stages, and the "fixed" carver 5 campaign really limits you on pilots and resource points to prevent that from happening too often).
if you have enough resource points, and extra pilots, you can do a lot of battlefield salvage and really walk out with a company of mechs. It also takes out a lot of the hard coded things like total mechs you can have in field at one time, I belive you can have upwards of 12 at a time if you so desire. Windows 10 can be a little funky to get it running on, but it can be done. If you want an updated version of MechCommander 2, look for MechCommander Omnitech, it's a complete overhaul and will work on modern systems usually with little to no problem.
